Does anyone know where I could find a bakery that makes regular vanillia-icing cakes with custard filling in them? Preferrably in Midtown or Downtown... I've been looking and I come across alotf Strawberry Shortcakes and Chocolate Mousse cakes... but can't seem to find the filling the kind I want. Thanks!
We've done the Midtown thing a million times. Don't want to do it again. Now, we're looking for something more "back door," away from the crowds. Restaurant options are also appreciated. Thanks!

im planning on moving to Midtown West soon. I want either a 1br/1bath or a studio/1bath. I don't have a very wide price range. What are some good agencies that can help me? This is my first time moving to the city. I would like to live near times square, or walking distance of it.
i already know of www.tregny.com
Thank you!
Learning about a new culture does not have to involve taking notes out of books, and then memorizing information. That kind of learning is really old-schooled and boring. A contribution my class and I made to the arts were in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Throughout those years, my class was studying worldwide cultures though interaction and the arts. We did things like put on plays, performances, paint, and interact online with people who lived in those areas of the world.
The first subject was China. During our study of China, we did a ribbon dancing act and a few Chinese paintings. We painted pictures of the outside world. The scene always included things like rainbows, birds, bamboo, water, and tiny buildings, such as lighthouses, out in the distance. During the ribbon dancing act, my class and I were given red and blue ribbons. The boys got the red and the girls got the blue. Red represented fire and blue represented water. The things that I liked most about the ribbon dancing was waving the ribbons around and listening to the music. The music sounded so real that I really felt like I was out there dancing, in China. Ms. Yuen was our director. My school and I even visited her studio, which was also her house, in midtown Manhattan.
The second play my class and I put on was in the 4th grade. In 4th grade, my class and I put on a Swan Lake play, in our cafeteria because my school did not have an auditorium at the time. In the Swam Lake play, I was one of the ducks. The play turned out to be so great that everyone felt like the scene was actually occurring. Everyone really looked like their role, especially my friend Jennifer, as the Queen, Alex, as the hunter, who killed the ducks, and Ricardo, as the king. The music really fit each scene. The purpose of this play was to perform the study of this Mexican muralist named Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera was a muralist who loved to paint, and always dreamed of his art coming to life. Diego must have painted a mural from Swan Lake. This play was an expression of how he saw it of coming to life.
The final study my class and I put on was a study of Australia. We used this website called Think.com to interact with people who lived there. After we gathered enough info, my class and I split up into smaller groups, to study different area's of the country. My group contained 3 people. Those people were Ashley Thomas, Diana Mizquri, Jennifer Garcia and I. Our theme was shopping. Our scene took place in a shopping mall, in Sydney, Australia. There wasn't really a conflict, just a typical day shopping. The most interesting scene I remember was the scene where the main characters and I met someone unexpected in the shoe store. She was the mother of one of the main characters. In the shoe store, she was the cashier. Ashley, Diana, and I played the main characters. Jennifer played the unexpected girl.
In conclusion, these were my 3 main experiences of the arts. How have you shown your talent of art in life? As my class and I put on more plays, I felt more confident in myself, compared to when we just began. When we just began, I felt very nervous. Though acting can be a real nerve-wracking experience, it also has a lot of fun after it, and you feel more confident afterwards. These experiences were much better, compared to if I had to take notes on these subjects out of a textbook and memorize information.
My thesis was: Learning about a new culture does not have to involve boring textbook work, and then memorizing information.
This paper is going to Beacon High School, NYC. I hope my interview is next week, but before I hand my paper in, I need criticism.

I am planning to open a bar and grill. So far the best spot we found is in Midtown. It's going to be a neighborhood bar/ sports bar. I'm trying to come up with a name. I want to attract the 30 something crowd. I thought of midtown tavern, big city tavern, but this seem to generic. I would like to find a name that has a Homonym( double meaning) i.e. The Pour House.(that name is already taken)
Who do you think Gabe Saporta (from Midtown and Cobra Starship) voted for in the presidential election?? Probably Obama but still... what do you think?
This question is for anyone living in the Atlanta area. I am celebrating my 22nd birthday and want some ideas for fun local bars/clubs. I heard that the Loca Luna was great for people who were interesting in a Latin vibe. What are some other place that you can think of that would be fun for a group of girls to go to have some drinks and dance? I would prefer somewhere near downtown Atlanta or Midtown and price really isn't an issue. Thanks!
I am going to New York close to Christmas and will be staying at a hotel near or in midtown & was wondering which of these two airports would be more convenient to fly into. Thanks in advance!
Hey there,
I'm traveling to JFK Airport from Midtown Manhattan. I could take either LIRR or subway "E" to Jamaica Station. I'm going on weekend so LIRR ticket is $3.25 vs $2.00 for subway. People say that LIRR is faster and cleaner. My question is, is the LIRR much faster and much cleaner than the subway or the difference is really small. Also, how much faster the LIRR really is? Travel time?
Thnx!!!
I seem to get a lot done at the UNO library, because it's super quiet and you have tons of space to work.
The only thing is, you have to pay for visitor parking. I used to think it was okay to park in that lot right outside of the library, but apparently it's not! You can get a visitor pass, but it's only good for a day or two. Any longer and you have to pay! The closest place to park is at Elmwood Park. That's fine in the fall, but that's just too far to walk once it gets to be below freezing out.
Does anyone know of any other good places to do homework in my area?
I go to Caffeine Dreams sometimes, but something about the atmosphere just makes it hard for me to focus on homework. Also, I don't think it's right to just go in without buying anything, so I always end up spending money on water or something I don't need.

I've been planning a bachelorette party for my best friend and I am going bananas. I am the maid of honor, but from day one, her two other bridesmaids (one is a childhood friend and the other is the groom's sister) have jumped the gun on planning pretty much everything. We live in three different locations so all planning has been done by email. Both girls have enormously higher salaries than mine (I work in journalism, natch), not to mention the fact that my friend asked me to be maid of honor the same week I got laid off from my job. So I have really had to save my pennies to go to her wedding in Jamaica in December ... what doesn't help is that these two other bridesmaids (for whom money seriously is not an issue from the way they talk) have insisted that we go to a fancy, expensive tea in NYC, then go to an expensive spa, then go to an expensive restaurant, then go out for drinks in the poshest clubs, and then stay in an expensive midtown hotel! When I mentioned that it was unrealistic to expect people to be able to spend any more than $500 on this day of events, they chose a different hotel ... but now I have been pressured to stay in the hotel, even though I could easily just go home. Out of respect for my best friend, I have been very easy-going and friendly throughout this whole process ... I have not complained when the childhood friend basically took over the planning ... nor when the groom's sister suggested things that were way too expensive for anyone (I'm sure she has no clue as to our salaries because she lives across the country and we've never met her). The one thing I did suggest that nobody else thought of was goody bags for the guests ... I figure, we should at least give them some souvenirs for all the trouble they are taking to attend this long party. Plus, I like doing little creative things ... I seriously did not think this detail was a big deal at all and it would be a great momento. But then the other two started suggesting we fill the bags with expensive things from Sephora .... I went along with it begrudgingly, of course, all the while suggesting things like cookies and souvenir t-shirts, etc. Now the childhood friend is telling ME that we are spending too much money on these bags and she can't afford it, etc. Um, really??? Putting those expensive items in them was her idea! And why is it that the one thing they even agreed to has to be the thing that they complain about? I mean for cryin' out loud, paying $70 for 11 goody bags is nothing compared to a $30 tea, $60 spa visit, $60 dinner, $100 night on the town and $100 hotel stay. Ugh!
Those prices mentioned are per person ... so the hotel stay will be $100 per person, etc.
Also, I just realized, I'm asking them to spend like $7 per person ... I seriously cannot understand them being disagreeable ... except that they planned expensive things for her without considering that hmm, maybe I wanted to plan something, too? I don't want to cause problems and tell them that they have been rude (and I'm sure my friend, the bride, would agree with me -- hence my being maid of honor) because I want her day to go as smooth as possible ... but isn't this just slightly uncool? How much do I need to be run over by people?
Just thought I should add that it's not really about growing a backbone -- I have really gone out of my way for this wedding and would not normally pay for such things ... the girl is my best friend since age 13 and her parents are basically disowning her -- having NO part in the wedding whatsoever, so my heart goes out to her in this situation. She actually said to me that she will pay for everything for me for the whole party because she realized how expensive these plans are getting. I told her I appreciate the gesture, but find it odd considering I am supposed to be giving HER the party. I can't help it if her other bridesmaids have impossible expectations. I told her I thought it was a shame that some of her friends would not be attending because they can't afford it, and I made sure to say, "you know, i did try to tell the other bridesmaids that that would happen."
the question is..

i am a 10 year veteran of the bar industry here in houston; however, i just took about a year off from working for various personal reasons and am now ready to get back to what i can do so very well. i am an attractive, funny female with a knack for conversation and for pouring a fantastic drink. the only problem is i have no idea where all the money is to be made now-a-days, seeing as i haven't set foot in a bar or club in 12 long months. any ideas are appreciated, also if anybody knows whether the bar is actually hiring or not that info would be helpful as well. one last thing....innerloop/montrose/midtown/downtown would be my preference on location.

Hello! Here's the scenario, what would be better for a quick two to three day stay in New York City:
Taking a flight/hotel package to New York City with the hotel being right in the JFK Airport zone for the cost of about $970.00 CDN?
or
Taking a flight/hotel package to New York City with the hotel being located in midtown Manhattan for the cost of about $1100 CDN?
No churches or anything please. I'm thinking more like bars, pubs, clubs around Midtown or Rice Village that are going to be having big costume contests. I know Howl @ The Moon is having one. Any others that anyone knows of?
My girl friends and I are going on a "girls" trip very in three weeks to NYC for a weekend. We are staying in midtown. I have been several times but I wanted to know some new restaurants or bars that are the new "hot spots". I want suggestons about places that are in midtown or close to midtown. Thanks!
please help i have no time at all to make a summary for this article
title: Tsunami hero girl sees U.N., Meets Clinton
Tilly, now 11, visited the United Nations Thursday and met former president Bill Clinton, the U.N. envoy for the tsunami recovery.
"My mum didn't realize what was happening on the beach because she wasn't taught about tsunamis when she was younger," said Tilly, who was in New York with her mother, father and sister. The Smith family all escaped the lethal waves after Tilly's early warning during their vacation on the island of Phuket.
Two weeks before the Dec. 26, 2004, disaster that took at least 178,000 lives, Tilly had studied tsunamis in her geography class in Oxshott, a community of about 5,000 just south of London. The children were shown a video from an earlier tsunami.
Tilly was armed with that knowledge when the Smith family decided to go for a morning walk on the idyllic beach near the JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa.
Suddenly, "I saw this bubbling on the water, right on the edge, and foam sizzling just like in a frying pan," she remembered. "The water was coming in, but it wasn't going out again. It was coming in, and then in, and then in, towards the hotel."
She recognized it as an indication that earthquake-driven waves were only minutes away.
Tilly turned to her mother, Penny, "and I said, 'Mum, I know there's something wrong, I know it's going to happen--the tsunami.'"
When her mother replied that it was just a day at the beach, "Tilly went hysterical,"
While Colin Smith relayed Tilly's warning to the hotel staff, the girl dashed back toward the beach filled with about 100 people. She told the Japanese-born hotel chef of the danger, "and he knew the word tsunami because it's Japanese. But he never saw one."
The chef and a nearby hotel security agent both spread the warning and the beach was swiftly evacuated--minutes before the devastating waves struck.
The beach near the Marriott Hotel was one of the few in Phuket where no one was killed or seriously hurt.
On Thursday, she was welcomed at U.N. headquarters by officials of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, a Geneva-based U.N. agency that is trying to educate people worldwide on proper disaster response.
During last month's earthquake in India and Pakistan, scores of schools were destroyed and many children died under the rubble.
"Tilly's story is a simple reminder that education can make a difference between life and death," Clinton said before his meeting with Tilly. "All children should be taught disaster reduction so they know what to do when natural hazards strike."
Later Thursday, the former president sat next to Tilly on a couch at a midtown Manhattan hotel and asked her to tell him about what happened.
In countries such as Japan, Cuba, Iran and Bangladesh, people have learned to live with frequent natural hazards such as floods and earthquakes, said Salvano Briceno, who directs the Geneva-based U.N. disaster strategy agency.
"When you have only a few minutes, it is important to know the actions you must take to reduce your risk, such as running to higher ground to avoid the flood water," Briceno said.
Next week, Tilly will be back in school--and in her favorite class.
"I like geography," she said.
