I know he broke world record after world record and all but he also knocked my cousin, Gil Stovall, out of the 200m fly finals by .1 seconds! I've heard that he isn't all that the news and media makes him to be! I know it's been a while since the olympics but I was just wondering...
I know! they just don't understand that there are OTHERS out there that are just as good [if not better] than Phelps!
Hello Mr G and class mates. This oral presentation will explain to you how “women in sport gain sufficient recognition by the media in the 21st century than in previous decades” and how this can still be improved.
The relationship between sport and the media has become so close that without the media the sporting world would collapse. The main income for sport comes from the media, as the media attracts big money through sponsorship and advertisements. The money from this helps clubs to be able to buy and import better players to make the game allot more interesting, the clubs can also use this money to upgrade, build and repair stadiums along with giving the players salaries. Without promotion of sport through the media there would be no new young talent coming through and the sport would become boring and people would loose interest in it. Media has a large impact on games and often games will often be revolved around add breaks. Ever since sport has been broadcast on television games have been changed to attract a wider audience, like one day cricket for example was formed in 1977 because of the media influence to attract a wider audience. A quote from the editor of, the economist (20 July 1996)
“The lure of money is already altering sport and will change it more. Increasingly games will be reorganised to turn them into better television.”(p 367).
The Medias involvement in sport is constantly becoming more important. Sports relationship with the media started out small but become much closer with advancement in technology.
Ever since the media has become involved in sport it has rapidly become a very profitable business. Sport was first introduced into the media in 1956 but had a minimal affect due to lack of communication tools and technology. Then in the 1970’s with the development of technology sport had another go with the world cricket series being televised for the first time to a television audience of 1 million people, from then on the relationship between sport and the media blossomed and were then inextricably linked. Quote Jacques Marchand (1994)
“At the start, the marriage of sport and the media was a love match. It later became a marriage of convenience and today, with the advent of [global] television, it has become, in addition, a marriage based on money.” (p 367)
Since the beginning of sport it has been male dominated and it is only really in the past couple of years women have started to gain some recognition.
The messages the media send about women and women’s sport have a large influence on how female athletes and sports are accepted in society. Women have come a long way in sports from only being able to view sporting events if they were unmarried virgins or prostitutes to now being able to participate and compete in almost every kind of sport, but they still get almost no recognition whatsoever. Women often have to pose either nude or in bikinis due to lack of coverage and promotion. For example in 2000 to gain media publicity, the Australian soccer team had to pose nude in a calendar shoot. In the courier mail on the 12 of November 2008 there were only three news articles on women’s sport out of the thirty eight sport articles there. One of the articles was about tennis player Daniela Hantuchova here is the article I have highlighted the parts I believe that women in sport constantly have to endure (pass it around the room) look at the bottom of that one it says.
“Hantuchova has sustained her carrier well after many years in which a battle to keep weight on her thin 181cm frame was closely monitored by the international media.”
That is an example of the media controlling how sporting women look. The last time a female was on the front page of a news paper or featured on the news was during the Olympics, but still it was images of the girls wearing their tight swim suits or other tight clothes and only featured the attractive girls, yet another example of sexism. The other articles are about the Firebirds net ball team and it mainly spoke about re-signing Tasmin greenway the “English stunner” the article was alright but focused on her looks, And the other article was about the sports stars of the year with a tiny space in the bottom of the page and a photo of Stephanie Rice even though the actual article mentioned her once and was mainly about men. The media have so much control they can do almost anything they like, for example with the women’s beach volleyball they have changed the design of outfits to tiny bikinis, and use many different camera angles to let guys have a “perve” when the girls go to serve, there is a nice close up of their bums. Female beach volleyball has a predominately male auidence due to the media changing the rules to attract a male auidence.
Women need to get more recognition for what they have done for the sporting world, often they are the higher achievers then the males. Take the Olympics for example, the majority of the medals cam
Is Swimming---World Cup Series that small to feature when we did the daily page for Beijing Olympics to stir-up the Interests of Singaporean. WHY wait till World Record is broken by S'porean, then feature in news & TV showing ? Are we unable to accept failures to learn from them ? HOPE our news press & TV reporters do their part to let the Singaporean know what is happening outside & inside S'pore in Sports and other concerned World Events. We need to know as we are in a Global City, no choice.
Is it bigger or smaller than a) Commonwealth Youth Games 2008, b) 1st Asian Youth Games 2009, c) 1st Youth Olympic Games 2010.
Sports is sports for Sports Interest of ALL and not Sports for Big & Small like betting in TOTO (a national number game).
Latest today......Tao Li won three medals in Berlin, World Cup Series in Swimming and broke the record for 100m Butterfly. It is a quiet affair, I don't know why? There must be a reason, what is it?
I was watching the news last night and they were going on about building the stadium an stuff for the 2012 Olympics.
They were saying they wouldn't have put in for it if they knew the recession was coming.
But their still going ahead with it and have put forward 9 and a half billion pounds!
To say the government are closing hospitals and schools because they cant afford to fund them, then where the hell did they get 9 billion??
What bank did they get it from?
Surely they could cut the funding towards that and help the current situation couldn't they?
Does any1 know where this 9 billion came from?

One wonders in this time of recession what is more important, jobs now or future profits?

Looks like the U.S. will make a play for the 2018 World Cup as well.
Umm,, Canada is not in the picture here.
Rio, Tokyo and Chicago are the big 3 for 2016. The representative for Tokyo admitted that with Obama winning, his city lost.
This was during the Paralympic Games.
I remember reading about it everywhere - but don't know what ever came of the baby - was the mother ever found?
If you don't know the story here is one news item on it
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/09/10/2361014.htm?site=olympics/2008
whooops - I mean 'ANYONE' hear what happened....
Just heard on the news that the sports stadium which is being built for Londons Olympics has been given permission to be turned into a football ground after Londons olympics for use by Londons football clubs.
Wonder if they are going to build freebie stadiums through out the rest of the country?
Kit Fand
Oh, I see, so if they pay for it, then where does the money that they paid go to?
Hi Teddy
Yes, I suppose we could all just pop down to London every evening to use the facilities!
During the Olympics, I noticed that the Russian athletes uniforms had been changed to say "Russian Federation", instead of "Russia".
Today, I noticed a map at a store that was made in 2008, and instead of the little countries that split up from the old Soviet Union, the area was shown as one big purple blob, with no boundaries, and the city name "Moscow" was in bold print.
I have heard nothing about this on the news, and I am an avid news reader who stays very closely informed on world issues.
Is the old Soviet Union banding back together under the guise of "The Russian Federation"? What is going on?
Every time I sign out of my yahoo mail account I end with this page dated August 18, 2008, and all about the olympics!!!! Help how can I get more updated?
This morning, heard from RADIO, S'pore NO.9 nation in medals, but I can't find news on it at Today, check the Web: III Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 and found the list only to Best 5 nations. Is it right or wrong S'pore has 2 gold, 5 silver, bronze ? Can someone from India kindly enlighten me and all S'porean who are interested in Sports and Medals for S'porean.
Why our Sports Council & Sports Media & TV are so ....not interested to keep S'porean informed of the outcome & the winning. What a LOOK against the Olympics and the Paralympics, because it is only the Youth? What will the youth BE.......in 1st YOG in 2010?
Done....found nothing.
A Sad situation.......really no supporter at all for the Youth Team in India, Why?
When the S'pore Team in China.....there was great support in China & in S'pore..Why?

Just shortly after the Olympics, world wide news focused on the China's use of fake firecrackers and use of a lipsynching girl. The Olympic games remained great however. Few days thereafter, there erupted this melamime containing milk from China.
Are these string of issues against China concidental or plotted?
Just asking.
i don't understand why would china people add poison to milk, don't they know that by doing such harm to human would means the end of a trustful business relationship.
selling poison food to other country may ended up loosing a long terms business, i don't believe these people is so stupid to do such thing,
if they are so smart to use Melamine to increase the protein of watered-down milk – don't they understand by doing so, they sure ended up loosing more than what they gain in the future?
have anyone really wonders what the real motive behind such act?
i mean... is there a much greater motive than just trying to earn some money? is it really that simple?
its really sadden me to hear so many children got sick..
these children done nothing to deserve such ...

Yeah, that's right. Remember Danny boy? No? I haven't heard him mentioned once during this lib media campaign slant. I'll post more info if you want. Not the anti-Palin or McCain garbage you people post; but the truth. It will take you until next year to get through it all. It is by far the biggest disaster in the lib's media history. Remember? I sure do...LoL!
I'll get back to what that did to your "credibility" later but let's get to Katie Couric and your bashing Sarah Palin for *giggles* or whatever. There's just too much for me to talk about on this thing I don't know where to start. So, speaking of giggling, I remember when the perky Katie's job was to be the happy correspondent to the olympics. Yep, I remember well. She gets with the guys on the swim team, diving team... :giggles:: flirt:: to the point that I was embarrased for the guys she would interview. It was truly pathetic. I'd have more respect for her if she would just shut up, and go to the locker room and took her clothes off. She would look at her sidekick, Lauer, with some desperate anticipation that he would make some sort of romantic pass at her. Of course your boy Matt didn't think of her in "that way." But now she's the hard nosed journalist asking the "tough" questions of Sarah Palin. Give me a flippin break. I've got news for you. The credibilty of CBS went completely down the toilet with Dan Rather, and it won't EVER come back. I'm sure the wigs at CBS paid off Dan big time to take the fall and, since it's all about the money, why not? Just like the repeated lame attempts at damage control with your party, so goes your media as well.

Football takes over the news headlines, makes the front page of the newspaper, appears in advertisments, everyone talks about footy, cricket, or whatever. This weekend it was all about the footy grand final, the Phillip Island motorbike racing. And then people complain because we didn't get as many medals as China and the USA at the olympics -- considering our population we should be happy to be within the top 10.
I used to love Golovin. I thought she would be the new smash hit on tour. With her age of 20 and quarterfinal appearance at the US Open i thought she was destined for greatness. The last I heard about her was her pitiful showing at the 2008 Aussie Open. Then I did here she would make it through to the Olympics but obviously that didn't happen. The last big news I heard about her was that she was a "sexpot" haha! Will she be playing in any upcoming tournaments? Will she at least make it to the 2009 Aussie Open. She is a great player and I don't want her to fall out of the top rankings (she's ranked 47! She was ranked 12th)
What is she doing?
it was in the Yahoo! news the first or second day of the olympics. it was dark out in the photo, and there were fireworks in the background and like a temple in front. there were a few chinese soldiers in it, too (they were wearing hats).
if any of you have a CLUE what im talking about, could you try to find it for me? please?
thanks!
i need a topic for an honor society essay. it has to be a current event within the past year that has changed my view on the world. im guessing it has to be a global event. im 16 so i don't read the news much but im smart. the only idea ive had that was any good was the olympics, how in the midst of all this crisis and confusion, countries can still get together for a peaceful competition. and also how it kinda brought the big world into perspective. but it seems weak. is there anything stronger that i can write about that is a bit easier to get information on. nothing like the stock market crisis, cause i have no idea what derivatives and CDS are, and its due in 2 days so i don't have that much time to understand it all. please help me out. anythings good. and if you don't know anything better just tell me if mine is okay.
.......This is development aid and not Money sent to help victims of the Earthquake. Surely they don't need Aid anymore from the British Taxpayer ?

The US, Canada and Australia also send Aid.
It appears that Kurt Angle's contract with TNA is almost up, I was on Lordsofpain.net which is a good site most of the time. At any rate here is some highlights...
His plans when his TNA contract expires: "When my contract comes up I'm going to be doing some MMA, so there it is straight up. At present I am leaning toward TNA, but I will choose whatever company is in my best interests."
Now I think that Kurt is too old & too beaten up for MMA.
His feelings on Shawn Michaels and Triple H: "My anger has passed. I don't blame Shawn or Triple H for what I went through. When it was time for me to get help, instead of shouting out I kept my mouth shut., Trip and HBK are two of the best wrestlers who ever lived. I harbor no animosity towards them. McMahon is a billionaire who wishes he had a gold medal in the Olympics. I may not have the money, but I am a valuable commodity. He knows, and I know."
This is the first interview that I have read where he says something positive about HHH,HBK, and Vince
Your thoughts ?
Here is the full story

Make no mistake. Jeanne Assam is a heroine for stopping a gunman from taking more innocent lives at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sadly, before being gunned down and wounded by Ms. Assam, the gunman shot and killed two sisters and wounded their father and two other church members. This happened more than 12 hours after the gunman shot four staff members (two were killed while the other two were wounded) of the Youth With A Mission [YWAM] group at its missionary training center in Arvada, Colorado.
According to The Denver Channel web site, Pastor Brady Boyd of the New Life Church said that "Assam was the one who suggested the church beef up its security Sunday following the Arvada shooting, which it did." The rest of this story can be read here:
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/14817480/detail.html
Keep in mind that a church security team for New Life and emergency plans created by this team were put in place long before the tragic December 9, 2007 shootings in Arvada and New Life occurred. What strikes me here is
1.) Jeanne Assam's suggestion of beefing up security for the New Life Church after learning about the Arvada shooting.
And:
2.) Pastor Brady Boyd agreeing with Ms. Assam's suggestion.
At least one person, who goes by the name Chuck, said that "They would have been luckier had they cancelled the service altogether." Very likely Chuck was thinking that by cancelling the Sunday services, the two sisters who died would still be alive today. Chuck's entire comment can be seen at this web site:
http://www.denverpost.com/olympics/ci_7684728
or Google his above quote to find links to web sites that include Chuck's quote.
Cancelling church services--with this in mind, I must ask (and I don't mean to sound harsh):
A.) Do you blame Jeanne Assam for her suggestion to beef up church security after the shooting in Arvada?
B.) Do you blame Brady Boyd for agreeing with Ms. Assam?
If either one or both are to be blamed, explain why and what you would've done if you were in their places after learning of the Arvada shooting. Thanks.
And may God grant eternal happiness to those four who died on that sad Sunday of December 9, 2007 and may God continue to help and give comfort to the families, relatives, and friends of the dead and wounded.
this is a 50-50 situation! theres a 50-50 chance for Gridiron Footy that it may become an olympic sport. and once again Karate, Squash and Rubgy (7s n union) have been axed again in the bidding contests for London 2012!
If Chicago wins 2016 bid, then i say tackle football is in that olympics HANDS DOWN since the host city can pick a sport any sport to fill in the gaps!
"Furthermore the IOC did not replaced those two sports by a new one. Golf, Rugby, Inline Skating, Squash and Karate all missed the majority needed to become part of the Olympic Program.
Which impact does those decisions have on the aim of American Football to become an Olympic Sport?
First of all thoses news are good news for IFAF.
The IFAF governs 52 full member associations, Tommy Wiking stated
.
"I don't want to sound cocky, but in the next 10 years, I think we'll have football being played in over 100 countries. We hear from one or two countries who want help getting started every month. I just heard from Sierra Leone. India has started to play."
And in the long run, Jacques Rogge doesnt exclude the participation of Tackle Football.
TWO COUNTRIES EVERY MONTH INTERESTED IN OUR SPORT!!! DO THE MATH!! we'll have an estimated 73-75 minimum by the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2010-2011. thats means olympic criteria has been reached. though currently the sport of gridiron is practised in 5 continents and 52 nations!!!

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=ap-paralympics-popovich&prov=ap&type=lgns
this is what it says at the bottom:
On Sunday, she was upset by American teammate Cortney Jordan in the 50 freestyle. Jordan finished in 33.84 seconds, with Popovich at 33.92. It was Jordan’s first gold in these games to go with two silver—100 freestyle and 400 freestyle—and a bronze in the 200 individual medley.
how did they get 33's for their 50 METER FREESTYLE? when they're olympians??
What is the piano piece that is being played in this BBC Olympic video, and who is the composer? Any one know?

Oh, and you have to be in the UK in order to view this video
I loved the 90's! Ok, I was born in 88, but I was still a "child of the 90's"! I just think the 90's were cool because it was the end of a millenium and the big finalé of the 20th Century of discovery; invention and modern life as we know it! It was the beginning of computers/Microsoft/Internet, the sort of technology we take for granted today & most of all, it was historical: the end of a millenium of evolution and discovery (electricity; technology; cars; planes; etc.) & the start of a new era and millenium - the 21st Century! Here are the top 5 reasons I'm proud to be a child of the 90's: (anyone agree?)
1) INTERNET! YAY!!! Internet was invented in 1991 & thanks to Bill Gates/Microsoft & the likes, we're online right now & will be for yrs to come! Lapotp's and Computers were officially developing in the 90's!
2) Film: Jumanji; Schindler's List; American Beauty (1999); Titanic; Edward Scissorhands; Saving Private Ryan; Ghost; My Left Foot; Pretty Woman; A Few Good Men; Forrest Gump; The Silence Of The Lambs; Basic Instinct; Groundhog Day; The English Patient; Natural Born Killers; Mrs. Doubtfire; Four Weddings and a Funeral; The Fugitive; Pulp Fiction; True Lies; Speed; Independence Day; Liar Liar; The Shawshank Redemption; Leaving Las Vegas; Interview With The Vampire; Braveheart; Tomorrow Never Dies; Mission Impossible; Golden Eye; Trainspotting; Twister; The First Wives Club; A Time To Kill; As Good As It Gets; Hook; Misery; Deep Blue Sea; Men In Black; The Lost World; There's Something About Mary; Scream; LA Confidential; Ace Ventura; Batman; Elizabath; Armageddon; The Matrix; Shakespeare In Love; Run Lola Run; The Phantom Menace; The Lion King; Eyes Wide Shut; The Sixth Sense; Sleepy Hollow; The Blair Witch Project; The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring; The Mummy & the dawn of CGI & animatronic films such as Babe; Antz; A Bugs Life & of course, Toy Story! The 90's was the birth of Special Effects as we know them today & stars such as Julia Roberts; Johnny Depp; Leonardo DiCaprio; Reese Witherspoon; Tim Burton; Kate Beckinsale; Cate Blanchett; Catherine Zeta Jones; Pierce Brosnan; Ben Stiller; Jim Carrey; Owen Wilson; Kristin Scott Thomas; Helen Hunt; Hugh Grant; Ewen McGregor; Nicole Kidman; Halle Berry; Neil Jordan; Danny Boyle; Adam Ball; Kate Winslett; Uma Thurman & Will Smith all kick-started their careers in the 90's - what a decade for Film!!!
3) Music: Tina; Jacko; Céline; Whitney; Bon Jovi; Madonna; U2; Shaniah; Garth; The Stones; Nirvana; Janet; Boys II Men; Annie Lennox; Sting; Pavarotti; Chér; Bryan Adams; Aerosmith; The Prodigy & Prince were all alive & kickin' during the 90's, with Kylie; The Spice Girls; Bjork; Justin; Mariah; Alicia; Beyoncé; Westlife; Boyzone; Robbie WIlliams; Take That; Oasis & Alanis Morissette all kicking off their careers! Phelps' diet is hard to swallow

USA's Michael Phelps shows off the 8th gold from the medley relay on the last day of swimming competition at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games .
"I remember," remembers my friend Stanley, who knocks off a nice repast or two once in a while. "My mother would never let me in the water after I ate a big meal."
Stanley and his mother were not alone. As I remember, it was a common parental restriction, and may still be today. Not that it bothered Stanley much to be restrained. He couldn't swim anyway.
When Michael Phelps ran the table at Beijing, he ignited the current question: Was he the answer to obesity?
Essentially, he won his eight gold medals by consuming a freakish 12,000 calories a day, as he says, and working them off with five or so hours of thrashing around in a pool. Stanley's mother would never have allowed it.
But we could call it the Phelps Formula, particularly effective for athletes standing 6-4, weighing 195, and immune to stomach gas.
Phelps gave the planet a heroic figure for the ages, particularly in his own proud country, but what did he contribute to the exotic world of weight control?
Nothing, for one, says food policeman Michael Jacobson of the Washington Center for Science in the Public Interest. Phelps downs junk foods like white bread, fried eggs, French toast, chocolate chip pancakes, cheese, fried onions, grits, mayo and many other devastating delicacies. He is well positioned for endorsing antacids.
Actually, there is a health issue worth addressing here. It doesn't take a medical paper to know that so much food in one day, junk or not, eventually will produce an organic problem or two.
Jacobson and other obesity experts report that junk food is the culprit behind the nation's highly visible rear ends. Those rear ends frequently wind up on the TV news as examples of what fat is doing to the country.
Apart from its startling quantity, the Phelps Formula actually is the same that most weight rehab places use, from Durham, N.C., to Weight Watchers in New Jersey: Energy (exercise) must balance calories. Unfortunately, the only exercise is eating.
The incomparable Phelps will return for the next Olympics, in London in 2012.
Phelps will be swimming in money when the next sports carnival comes around, but that won't stop him. If he can do four more years of 12,000 calories and 7,200 hours in the pool, he'll be back, maybe bigger than ever.
I read this in starledger, but what is this guy's opinion. I need to know what he thinks about Michael Phelps. is he saying that he is unhealthy or what? I don't understand the article. pls help.
My mom and dad have citizenship to a country in North Africa, They have only had 2 or 3 swimmers come out of that country for the Olympics. If i were to in the future be looking to represent them, how would i go about doing that? Because they dont have an olympic trials out there that i know of. Would i have to call them? I dont think they would notice me because i'm a US Citizen as well and i have been out there, they barely even get American channels or news. How can i represent them in the Olympics in the future?
why is it the olympics in beijing seemed to have a 2 day opening ceremy with fireworks with 24 hour news coverage on every tv channel for weeks now its the paraolympics turn they get no main tv coverage only cable or satelite about 5 miniutes on the 6 oclock news dont people realize these people have probably worked harder in there training with there disabilities i think its unfair they should be treated equal and both have the same publicity (what happend to equal opportunities)
These games are going to be extremely expensive to stage, there will be added costs of protecting the event from terroism and if the unthinkable happens and a major terrorist attack happens the games will probably be canceled and all the money effectively wasted.
Am I being overly negative. Anyone think the games will be a triumphant and worthwhile use of all that money.
And does anybody think this logo was a good idea? (I hate it) - http://www.creation.uk.com/images/news/%5B17%5D_london-2012-olympic-logo-pink-blue.gif

Politics, News Reporting, Magazine Rags, the Olympics, etc. At one time it "seemed" as if fair play or playing by the rules was real (maybe remembered naively) and now the concept has disappeared.
If the area was Yahoo Answers then another example could be use and abuse of thumbs down in Yahoo Answers.
After days of intense media coverage about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's qualifications, more than 40 million Americans tuned in Wednesday to see for themselves what they thought of her.
The huge audience for Palin's acceptance speech rivaled that for Obama's address at the Democratic National Convention six days earlier, and set a tough standard for the top of her own ticket. John McCain was to accept the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday.
The first two days of the GOP convention essentially served as a build-up for Palin. The Alaska governor hadn't spoken publicly since McCain selected her for the ticket last Friday, as a series of stories circulated questioning whether McCain had properly vetted her.
Her poised speech, primarily going after Obama and touting McCain's case for the presidency, was gushed over by many analysts.
An audience of 37.2 million people watched Palin on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, Nielsen Media Research said Thursday. PBS estimated its audience at 3.9 million, based on a less reliable sample of several big cities. Nielsen does not count the audience for C-SPAN, which also showed the speech.
Last week, Nielsen said 38.4 million people watched Obama speak at a Denver stadium on the six commercial networks, along with BET, TV One, Univision and Telemundo — four networks that didn't cover Palin's speech. PBS added an estimated 4 million to that total.
Nearly 2 million more women were watching Palin than men, Nielsen said.
Viewers were far more interested in Palin than Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden. Biden's speech to Democrats last week was seen by an estimated 24 million people.
The audiences for the Obama and Palin speeches were bigger than the ones this year for the Academy Awards, the finale of "American Idol" or the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing.
Nearly 120 million Americans voted in the 2004 presidential election and numbers could be higher this year because of young and minority voters attracted to Obama, and renewed enthusiasm among Republicans for their ticket.

An elderly couple are vowing to go to jail rather than pay the 2012 Olympics surcharge on their council tax bill.
Tom and Rita Glenister insist the £33.33 levy imposed on London homes to cover the cost of the London Games is unfair.
They will appear in court later this month after ignoring repeated demands for the Olympic charge from their local council

Yahoo is my home page. In the past when I click on the Internet Yahoo has been coming up with up to date current information on that page. Since the Olympics which I enjoyed very much, you have stopped posting current news of the day and this is very disappointing.l I like to know what political news has happened that day, etc. The internet is my major means of keeping up with the news . Why are you no longer doing this? Carol Hardee
soo i havent really been watching the news lately, but i was wondering what they decided on the 3 chinese girls. did they let them keep the gold metal or not? please explain
The memphis grizzlies signed the 23 year-old center hamed haddadi to become the first Iranian player to enter the NBA... He is 7'2" and led all 2008 Olympians in rebounding and blocks. His best performance came against eventual bronze medal winner Argentina when he had a team-high 21 points and game-high 16 rebounds!
So What are your thoughts on him... Does he have the potential to develop into a productive center in this league or will he only go as far as back-up center during his whole career? Did he impress you during the olympics even though he was on a weaker team?

Do you guys think he will be an impact player for memphis and help them towards the next few years... How much playing time for him coming off the bench?
