so i liked this guy and he liked me and we started going out. there were some trust issues but we worked them out and got over them. anyway, we dated for about 2- 2 1/2 months, i honestly loved him and he honestly loved me. but it wasn't going too well so we broke up...however is was definitely not a mutual agreement.we stayed broken up for about a month and then there was a party. me and him were both there. but we weren't really talking TOO much at the time so i was hanging with my friends and him with his. i wasn't completely over him and at times wanted to get back together so when i saw him like holding hands with the girl that i COMPLETELY hated, i wen up to him and told him i wasn't over him and then we got back together. that lasted for another week...because he lied to be and broke promises. i was pretty pissed. so me and him stayed pretty good friends for about 9 months, i had a relationship in between that but i kinda of always had the feelings for my ex boyfriend in the back of my mind and i KNOW that he still loved me. so after about 9 months he had started partying more and doing stuff that he didn't do before. he also got a new girlfriend. one night at a football game him and his new girlfriend were hanging out with us. i couldn't help but miss him and everything that we had gone through. so that night he came over and we talked about a lot of stuff. and i told him that i missed us and everything and he told me that same. so we ended up holding hand, cuddling, and kissing. so needless to say me and him got back together after he broke up with his grilfriend of only a week. it's like we fell back in love right away. i really missed everything about him and i was really happy. after about a week and a half, i just didn't feel as good when i was with him. and regretfully, i broke up with him once again. i feel terrible now and i do honestly miss him again, but i told myself that i can't keep doing this to him or myself.
but can you tell me...do you think i did all that out of jealousy of the other girls he was going to be with or with at the time? or do you think it was out of really truly loving him? i need help because frankly, i can't make heads of tales of my own situation :/
please help...THANKS!!
(sorry for the length)
Sitting at a desk a student prepares to write an essay, she lifts her #2 pencil and begins to write. She starts with an indent about a half an inch to the right of a vertical red line on her paper. Even as she sits there she proves that people are influenced by those around them. She could have just as easily started at the very edge of this paper if she ignored what is known as the normal way to start writing. However my question is whether or not a little conformity is such a horrible thing. Our lives are influenced by the majority every day of our lives, whether we are making our coffee or striving to dress in all Abercrombie & Fitch. Whilst peer pressure is something we should try and rid our lives of is it absolutely necessary to change our morning coffee routine as well?
The main reason people don’t agree with conventionalism is that there is the fear that you will no longer be yourself or that we will ignore our better judgment, and there is undeniably some truth to that. In my ninth grade English class we read a short story titled “The Lottery.” Though the first thought that got through to me was the rather gruesome end, we began to discuss the meaning of the tale itself.
In “The Lottery” a small old town begins to prepare for their annual lottery. At the end of the ceremony the “winner” is stoned to death as a sacrifice for a full harvest and good luck for the town. The meaning of this was that the tradition of the lottery was covering their better judgment and causing them to kill one another in order to keep the tradition alive. I do not disagree with anyone against that, but I do believe that we shouldn’t strive to change every thing about ourselves in the purpose of being different. If being ourselves makes us have some similarities with our peers we shouldn’t try to change that, the same as we shouldn’t try and change ourselves to be like them. We need to find our middle ground, our individuality.
If being ourselves means that we do subject to some conformity, it’s not such a horrible idea. We must try and keep our identities our own, that’s undeniable. However we must not strive so hard to be individual that we are no longer ourselves. That would completely contradict the purpose of being individual.

The Prompt:
“I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best of advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.”
Are people held back by their adherence to the beliefs of the majorities or doing things the conventional way? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on the issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experiences or observations.

This is my first trial essay. Unfortunately I often find it harder to be critical of my own paper than someone elses, so I'm looking for some critique. What can I improve?
(and yes, I know the last paragraph is horrible, I just didn't know what to write for a conclusion.)
Thanks so much! God bless.
Hello, I'm looking for a story that, a few months ago, was on the net. Now I'm trying to find it and I can't. I'm talking about "Unlikely" by Draeconin. Draeconin's website is (or used to be) http://draeconin.com/tales
Now, I try to get in but I can't...
Maybe someone has Draeconin's Unlikely, I would really appreciate if you contact me and tell me how I can get Unlikely again, please!
Constructive criticism is appreciated but don't be to harsh im not much of a writer.
It is titled "A Boat without a sail"
And I remember
When we used to hang
You’d smile at me
You’d Make my day
I stop to think
I stop to stare
My hand above
Blocking the glare
I see you standing
I hear you yell
Are you happy
I cant tell
I need something more
Something to matter
I want your love
My hope you shatter
We grow apart
Make different turns
The truth in my mind
It slowly burns
My life now
Not the same
I don’t feel joy
I don’t feel pain
Not a happy tale
The rest of my life
A boat without a sail
I don't usually write poems.
This is pretty much my first.
It didn't take long at all.
I'm making a poster about how underground brothels in San Francisco are bad, and I want to make it really powerful. I'm hoping a few words plus a large picture or two will tell the tale. (I have to do a could of assignments on the back).
What would be a good idea?
I was thinking of putting a picture of an Asian massage parlor, and then putting up prices like 1 hour $100 and stuff.
Would that be powerful enough/tell the tale?
This is a poster against sex slavery
I askd it once earlier, got a response that showed most weren't paying attention, so I'm going to ask it again:
As I stated, I think I have had twenty aggregate minutes of exposure to this TV program and it already screams "FUNDIE TRAP!"
The old-school christian kids show Davey and Goliath was a lot better than this. At least they weren't ashamed to admit their christian orientation. They came right out with it, and it was well-made with no repetitive drilling. It was cute, like "Leave it to Beaver" and "I Love Lucy" is cute and quaint.
Veggie Tales, like other religious events and programming, does this dance and hint, dance and hint. . . they took 17 minutes to tell you Christmas is about the birth of Christ.
So, my question - When some christian groups put on festivals (like around Halloween), create TV programming, or music these days, why the trend of the need to dance around subjects, not tell you upfront about this "good news" and not quite tell you it's meant to be a message about Christ?
I've seen and lived this once in a while. I dislike deceptive advertising. If it's about Christ, it's about Christ. Why the shame, folks?
i was fired from my job 2mos now because i had illness in my family well i was finish with my assignment so i left day 1 day 2 got a phone call saying the Dr. call all the family to the hospital had 2 go.left 3 stay overs un done well my co worker said she will do it for me so i told my floor supervisor and i told my boss.she told me i left early the day before and now i gotta leave today she no longer needed me.the work i do around this time of year it slow so slow we only work 2-3days out the week and get partial unemployment.plus i've work there for 2 years 3mos was due 1 week vacation with pay and 150.00 my christmas bonus you no she looks broke she need it more than me then on top of all that she's trying too stop me from getting my unemployment by telling a bunch of lies on me to try and make her look good.i'm a housekeeper one of the best she had and now the season is over she give me her tale to kiss.you no i look at it this way sometimes God let things happen for a reason.payday is coming for her!! and me i deserve better any way it's so unprofessional there lots of chiefs and no indians.what should i do ?don't wanna get the lawyers into this.

also, sorry for reposting this, I was trying to change the question category from hair to videogames.

Out of these:
Folklore
Mythology
Urban Legend
Literature
History
Paranormal
Fairy tales
Fables
These are all different things, but some characters or creatures appear in more than one. What or who can you think of that appears in the most? Names of specific characters would be great.
I just realized how much my question sounds like homework. It isn't - I have been out of school for many years. I am just always looking for new information and ideas.
The one that is foremost in my mind is the old hag character, who appears to test a hero/heroine and can perform magic.
harpertara: I can think of an example of the 'old hag' in every category except urban legend. Do you know of an urban legend regarding her? I would love to read about it.
im 32 weeks pregnant and is having like flu like symptoms and having pains in my lower i was just wondering b/c ive herd stories that u can get flu symptoms when ur bout to go into labor im already 1 cm dilated just wondering if any has exsperianced this or if that just an tale ??????
I am 24 and six months pregnant with my first child with my "fiance" of 2 months and boyfriend of 8 years. I just dug myself out of depression and was finally starting to get the hang of things.
He shows up at my house to stay a few days and at first everything is beautiful. Then his lump sum for a settlement shows up and he loses his mind. He starts CRYING about how he's not that great of a person. How he wants his kid to see him as the best and not NUMBER 2!! He starts comparing me to his dad and saying that People like me and his father are going to drive him to do horrible things- he also says that if my child is not EXCELLENT he's not going to want anything to do with it. He begins to cry and throw a violent fit- throwing a waterbottle across the room, yelling, kicking things- and I tell him to leave. He starts crying AGAIN "your going to tell my kid all the things i've done and that kid's not gonna like me...
Long story short- he goes bonkers ( I thought I was preggo) and I sent him home- as he begins to pack, I stop him and ask him to stay. "We can go to get you some help in the morning..."
He insists on leaving to go "spend his money." I let him go. He calls later on to ask If I still want to get married, and I say no. And I meant it.
His car and his home are not more important than a stable dad for my baby. Point blank.
Background:
My fiance's dad abused him and his mom brutally when he was a child
he is now 28, and he has not gotten over it, and all but refuses to go and get help. He constantly recants the tales of his mom sleeping on the couch with a black eye, his dad stumping him with a steel toe boot because he picked art as a major- 12 years later. He's hurt, and he keeps hurting me. Although in 8 years he's never hit me, I won't take the risk. This is supposed to be my best friend, but it seems as though he is too hurt to live his life...
Am I right for cancelling this engagement? I haven't called him in a few days. what should I do?
Lily,
People like you make me HATE yahoo answers.
Answer the question please. What am I justifying? Cutting off an engagement is not fun. You are an $)@)*! that lacks empathy.
I have had a broken back, and now it is healed, suffer chronic and deep pain. I have been prescribed Oxycontin 40mg (and had Endone - oxycodone) in the past. However my doctor is not keen for this to continue infinitely.
Does anyone know of any pain relief medication based on old wives tales (yes, I know alcohol was used but don't want to go there)? I'm thinking of some tale like mixing a tea from tansy and clematis or somesuch thing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am prepared to suffer some pain but want to take th biting edge off it.
Yes, there is a little inflammation, but not a lot. I DO NOT want to see a Chiropractor - they are frauds.
I have tried acupuncture and, if I am to be totally honest, it did not make a scrap of difference (despite going in with a positive mind). Nor can I see how it would. Thanks, but I prefer conventional medicine.
I changed some stuff...but not a whole lot
wrote a small and weak conclusion
i really have no ideas left inmy brain
i have been sitting here like a vegetable for the past 5 hours trying to write a decent and coherent essay

When a reader first opens the page of a book, the reader has no idea where that book will take him. Whether he will laugh, cry, or hate, he does not know. After those couple of pages or that first chapter, the reader might know where he is headed. Sometimes, this is not the case. Ambiguity may arise and the reader might be confused as to the direction of the story. A reader of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights might experience something similar when reading the first chapters. Through her distinctive narrative structure, Emily Bronte creates the ambiguity that pertains to the present circumstances at the Heights. The reader has no idea what has happened or what happened at the Heights. Later in the story, her point of view clarifies this ambiguity. The success of Bronte’s point of view in creating and clarifying ambiguity to the reader is achieved through her characters’, Lockwood and Nelly, points of view.
The ambiguity that arises in the introductory chapters is a result of the present circumstances that Lockwood, the new tenant of Thrushcross Range, witnesses. At first, Lockwood records his first visit and impression on Wuthering Heights, and there is no ambiguity. However, one night, as he is forced to seek shelter at the Heights, ambiguity arises out of his writings. A family, or so it seems, full of hatred, malevolence, and hostility inhabit Wuthering Heights, “’Mrs Heathcliff is my daughter-in-law,’ said Heathcliff, corroborating my surmise. He turned, as he spoke, a peculiar look in her direction, a look of hatred unless he has a most perverse set of facial muscles that will not, like those of other people, interpret the language of his soul” (13). His first-person accounts make the reader question the inhabitants of Wuthering Heights. Lockwood fails to understand the peculiar situation at the Heights. He is an outsider, and the reasons as to why this family is hateful toward each other are unclear and hard to imagine. More ambiguity arises as the story moves on. When he is at the chamber, he notices several books with the same first name, Cathy, but different last names, Heathcliff, Earnshaw, and Linton (19). After recounting a nightmare to Heathcliff, he realizes that the mention of any of these produces agony in Heathcliff “though why, was beyond [his] comprehension” (29). Lockwood’s first-person point of view gives some insight into life at Wuthering Heights. His experiences serve as a guide to the reader, who just like him, is an outsider to the world of Wuthering Heights. Through Lockwood’s first person point of view, the reader is getting an outsider’s perspective on Wuthering Heights. The reader gets the notion that life at Wuthering Heights is miserable, but is this point of view reliable? As an outsider, Lockwood has no effect or knowledge of what has happened to make the atmosphere hostile and miserable. The reader cannot be assured that life is really as wretched as it seems. There are constant “Why’s” in first chapters, such as “Why does Heathcliff hate his family?” and “Why does he agonizes over a name?” These “Why’s” create the ambiguity of the first couple of chapters, and are later answered through another character, Nelly.
Nelly, the housekeeper at Thrushcross Grange, offers an explanation to the ambiguity at Wuthering Heights through her vivid stories. Lockwood’s increased interest in Heathcliff and the peculiar behaviors of the rest of the residents leads Nelly to recount tales of the past, which then clarify the ambiguity, “Well, Mrs Dean, it will be a charitable deed to tell me something of my neighbours, I fell I shall not rest, if I go to bed; so, be good enough to sit and chat an hour” (35). Nelly, as a housekeeper, is a witness and main narrator. Her stories, which are recorded in Lockwood’s diary and said in first-person, create the image that these events are happening right in front of the reader’s eyes. However, the events that she recalls “…happened last winter…hardly more than a year ago” (256). Her first-person point of view in the story makes her tales vivid and detailed, which in turn give a clear clarification to the ambiguity of the Heights. These detailed stories are full of dialogue, which also offer a somewhat reliable explanation to the cause of pain and hatred. She offers a moderately reliable account because she has not only been a witness to the events but also a participant. Her long life as a household keeper has allowed her to not only know the residents’ deepest secrets and true characters, but she has also participated in the story. She has been with the family through the good and bad times, “The evening after the funeral, my young lady and I were seated in the library; now musing mou

I really would like people who can give logical explanations for this, so no Bible verses. I have been more scared of death the older I get. The more I contemplate in my mind, the more I have this sick notion that there isn't anything after death. Please read my reasonings for it, and then answer as many of the questions I have to your honest opinion.
I think there isn't life after death because...
1) FREE WILL. We basically can kill ourselves when ever we want to. We can also kill others. It just seems so easy to off ourselves. The same goes for abortions. Women can actually decide to get rid of their own unborn if they want to. That makes it seem like we basically control our own life. If there was life after death, it wouldn't seem possible.
2) NO PROOF. When someone dies, they never come back to tell us anything. "Ghost Hunters" does not count! Nor do visions, dreams, etc. It seems that the millions that have died, at least one would come back. And please no one say Jesus.
3) OTHER ANIMALS HAVE THE SAME DNA AS US. Mainly chimps, which have 98% the same DNA. So if there's life after death for us, I am to assume to the same pertains for chimps, tigers, whales, and even mice and lady bugs??? Seems a bit far fetched.
4) FRAGILE. We are very fragile beings. I could die by choking on a carrot. Or cutting my vein. Or simply breathing the wrong way. If it's so easy to die, then how could it be there's something after this life?
5) THE UNIVERSE. Where were we before we were born? I can't remember. So basically when I die, I assume the same thing. The way science says it, we're all cells. So even if when I die, my ENERGY continues, I won't be aware I'm here. That's basically the same as there being no life after death.
6) WAR. A little boy survives a car crash. His friends say "God saved you." But God allowed WW2 to happen. 9-11. Hurricane Katrina? What makes God spare one life, but off another?
7) THE BIBLE. Sorry, but it's been rewritten so many times. And it seems to me it's all an interpretation. For example, it says Thou shall not kill. Yet MORE KILLINGS Have happened due to religion in this world then any other cause. Hmmmm. Makes you wonder if this is all just a load of fairy tales.
Please answer any of the statements I made above- again, I WANT to believe there's something, but I'm finding it harder and harder to believe.
Okay so far Im getting a lot of what I said I DIDN'T WANT! Im getting Bible verses, and people giving me one sentence answers. I made some VERY VAILD points involving DNA, animals, Free will, and no one has commented on any of that, or giving me their theory. This just shows me that many of you KNOW there isn't life after death, and create the Bible and religion as a way to make yourself less afraid to die.
I've gotten some reccomendations to read: Little Women, The Notebook, Wuthering Heights, Bridget Jone's Diary, Sense and Sensibility, Crime and Punishment, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Thirteenth Tale, Just Listen, and The Truth about Forever.
I have already read stuff like the Twilight Saga, Uglies Series, Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.. the mainstream books like that.
So if you wouldn't mind, i'd really appreciate it if you gave me your thoughts on the reccommendations i got and if you have some books of your own to reccommend, feel free to do that too!
Please and Thank you =D

I just read The Odyssey, but I'm still confused about a few things.
Even if you don't know all of them, please answer the ones you do know.
Who went about the world telling people about The Iliad and The Odyssey?
What is said about the beauty of Helen?
In what specific ways did Odysseus try to avoid being drafted in the Trojan War?
How did "the draft board" discover he was faking?
In an attempt to convince the Trojans that they could not be defeated, Odysseus and another Greek warrior stole something from the city, what was it?
How did Odysseus react when they saw horse and heard the lone Greek's tale?
Who was the Trojan priest who tried to convince the Trojans to not bring the horse into the city?
After eating two of Odysseus's men, what honor does Cyclops tell Odysseus he will give him?
With.. a computer is it?? Did he have a computer?? I just don't remember.....
You people are going to miss me when I'm gone.. which should be soon, obviously...
I think I have had twenty aggregate minutes of exposure to this TV program and it already screams "FUNDIE TRAP!"
It's pretty sad when the pithy remark was the best answer, but none of the other 2 responses answered my question. Thus I am giving the 10 points to the pithy remark.
Is it true that cracking your knuckles can give you arthritis later in life or is it just an old wives' tale? Me and my fiancee are having a huge debate over it!
just for the pure joy of being creative and sharing that creativity with others?

My friend has been dating a guy now for two months who has this beautiful pony tale. My friend loves guys with long hair.
Any way one night she was staying over at his Moms house seperate rooms of course and she sneeked into her boyfriends room through the night to kiss him good night. Her boyfriend had already fallen asleep but to her shock on his night stand was his pony tale. The next morningshe gets up and hes already sitting at the table drinking coffee and having breakfast with his night robe on and THE PONY TALE..
How is she going to approach this situation..He told her one night he was washing his hair and my other friend seen him out the same night...We now know hes the only guy that can be out whilst his hair is getting washed - in the washing machine..What should I tell her to do?
There's much in the tale
Of a love story here...
Lovely wedding, guests,
And way lots of beer!
The Angels were there,
The ole Devil was too.
He cooked up a scheme
And then let it brew!
Sam boarded his ship
The very next morning.
Pam tended the Pub.
There was no warning!
That fifty years came,
And fifty years did go
With nary a fight...
Only love to show!
Angels were grinning.
The Devil was sour.
His scheme went awry...
Bet was one flower!
And not from the Earth!
Devil tossed, Devil turned...
No way could he pay!
He did a slow burn!
Angels laughed for joy!
That extra-crispy Devil,
Hot and spicy, of course!
Would serve their purpose
As one Damned bad,
But laughable toy!

Snide...of course I trust your links! This particular commenter deleted his answer and link...after I reported him.
the economy is bad, job cuts are everywhere. so the reporters spins the same horror tale on t.v. telling you again and again, some idiot company is retrenching. would you panic ? would you go paranoid ? i think when things go bad enough already, we can try to ease it by not blowing up the issue. can we tell the reporters not to over report on the issues, especially when x'mas is coming ? i think paranoia is more infectious than the crisis itself.
