I've tried the w3schools tutorials, yet none of them work. I am currently trying to use CSS to set my html sets current background to "bg.png" and the frame in the middle positioned to be "frame.png". Can anyone help me with this? bg.png and frame.png are in the root directory along with the html files. According to w3schools, it should look like this, although it does not work. I know my CSS is being recognized as the html has the appropriate colour theme laid out in the css file, although it's just not setting a background image. -Ron I have tried your method, even an exact copy+paste. I stuck the images in Q:\html\images, but even with the image code being ...background: #fff url(images\Bg.bmp)... etc or with html\images\Bg.bmp, it still refuses to recognize it. It does not recognize the background colour as well, although the other CSS code is definitely recognized as it defines colour themes for the link "unclicked", "clicked" and when hovered over etc so I know the CSS is working, just not the code. Thanks for your help anyway, I might just have to tweak it for a bit.

• Beginner problem for SQL?

Ok, so I had my second job interview today which was a paid internship position with a graphic design company in downtown. This position also has flexible scheduling depending on what kind of work comes up and availability. From the way the interviewer was talking to me, he understands that I'm right out of college and the interview process can be a little nervewracking. I smiled and put on a pleasant show today at the interview, but I don't think I did well in answering some questions. Here's some dialogue from what I can remember: Interviewer: Describe two strengths you have Me: I am very reliable, always on time, and willing to handle new challenges. I'm also really good with deadlines, which is my second strength, like with projects, I tend to get done early, and in school I was one of the first people in class to get a graphic design project done. Interviewer: Describe a weakness, and what you need to work on. Me: Well, I don't have a lot of experience in the web developing part of graphic design like HTML and Dreamweaver, but I really do want to learn it and would like to grow on these type of skills. I am now taking a class learning how to develop websites. Interviewer: Describe any problems you had with your current job at Six Flags. Me: Well, when it gets to be that time of the year where everyone is going back to school our department starts to get short handed on employees, so I tend to very good about filling in other peoples shoes, covering other people if they need off. Doctypes, content types, and namespaces, oh my! I've been teaching myself web development (slowly) for the past couple of months. I've read two books on HTML/XHTML, am on my second CSS book and I've taken one online CSS tutorial. The logistics, tagging, and cascading stuff...that all I get. What confounds me, however, is how to start off a document. The easy stuff...that a lot of books and online guides gloss over. For instance, I just had someone else from Yahoo answers tell me all about linking to CSS documents from within your XHTML document. Now I'm trying to figure out doctypes, content types and namespaces. What are they and where do they go? Also, what do they do? Are they always used the same way, or no? To my understanding thus far, a doctype is a line of code that tells the browser what rules you're using for XHTML/CSS. I've also learned that there's several different kinds. What do I need to know and what questions do I need to ask to know what kind of doctype I should use? Also, where do I put it? Namespaces and content types I know less about...or rather, nothing at all to be more specific. I've come across some explanations regarding them, but I'm still not very clear. Again, what are they, what do they do, and where do they go? What I'm really trying to do is nail the basics here on how to kickoff a document with code so that I can browse it in an internet browser. Here is my current understanding of how a document should be laid out: *HTML* *HEAD* *TITLE* Example */TITLE* *CSS Link stuff* */HEAD* *BODY* Imaginery code */BODY* */HTML* How does a doctype, content type, and namespace fit into this? • What are the first lines of code in a CSS script?

I've now finished two books on HTML, one book on CSS, and an online CSS tutorial. I understand most of what I've read, and I have no problem at all with HTML. What I can't understand however is what the first few lines of a CSS script are supposed to include/mean. From my understanding, it's a line of code that validates the script as using CSS. This might sound stupid, but every guide I've read so far has either not gone into depth on the first few lines in a CSS document, or they've ignored it completely. So what is it? I understand the Header tags and the Body tags but what do I put before that? What does it mean? Are there variations to the first few lines of a CSS document, or do you always use the same code? I promise, I'm not crazy here. CSS looks like a pretty easy language to work with for the most part, but I can't seem to get the damn ball rolling because I can't figure out how to correctly write the first part of a CSS document. I just want to be able to write code from scratch in Notepad and then open the document in a internet browser and NOT see gibberish code. I did this easily enough when I was getting started with HTML, now I want to be able to do it with CSS. Help would be appreciated and probably save me from having to visit a mental ward. Ahh..It appears I could have been a bit more clear on my understanding of CSS and HTML. Let me try and remedy this. I understand that CSS is not a replacement for HTML, but rather a mark up language to be used in conjuncture with HTML in order to minimalize the total amount of code that has to be written, condensing it's size, and thus making it easier to edit and faster to load. The "cascading" bit I understand as well. It's still sinking in, but I get the concept. Medhi is closest to answering what I'm looking for and has inspired a few new questions...Perhaps what I'm so stumped about is the " " bit you mentioned. I've seen this before, and I've never been able to make sense of it. Where it goes exactly, what it's exact purpose it serves, does it always look like that? Why would you change it? Also, do you still need the link if the CSS document is internal, and on the same page with as the HTML?

I am trying to figure out how I would make a little web coded slot machine and get it to work in the way that when you get the results after each pull of the 'lever', it opens a random [ and doesn't have to coincide with the results] page from a number of various specific pages in a separate embedded window/frame inside the main browser window. I am not a programmer by any means. I only know CSS and HTML, and I have only just started taking tutorials on PHP a few days ago. In order to install PHP on my computer, I needed Apache, for Apache, I needed something else. I'm sick of all this! I just want to be able to /VIEW/ PHP files (not open them in an editor). I am incredibly frustrated. I've tried installing PHP manually, but I'm not smart enough for that, and the installer even baffled me, with the whole Apache thing. Is there an easy way of enabling me to view local .php files? Notepad won't let me view PHP files, just edit them. I don't need an editor, I already have that much figured out. And thanks for the links, but I can't see myself spending that much money on DreamWeaver, since I probably won't use it that much. ;D I can't install Apache or mySQL. • I got Hacked (Your Privacy is in Danger)?

Hey guys, last night i got hacked. Pop ups every 2 seconds asking to pay for this anti virus software crap, with a large image as my background saying YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER, and i couldn't click on anything, couldn't access my hard drive or control pannel. Anyway, i looked up tutorials online on what to do, and i got this tutorial. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic98811.html it pretty much got rid of everything and i was totally happy. The only thing that remains, is that when i go on my internet browser (internet explorer) i still get a few pop ups from previous saying install this anti virus, buy this, etc, etc. The main one that comes up is called MICRO AV SECURITY CENTRE. I went into my c: drive and found the folder called Micro av. I dont want to gro straight ahead and delete the files in this folder incase they are needed to uninstall something in a different way. Can anyone help me, or recommend me to do something? Just need a way to stop this micro av crap popping up in my internet browser. I'm not an expert so would love it kept simple please :) Thanks!
